Floating Island Lake, Tahoe Basin
Floating Island Lake is the first lake you will encounter as you hike up to Mount Tallac. At 10.5 miles round trip, it doesn't seem all that bad but you gain 3,500 feet in just over 5 miles, over relentless, vile, scree rock. Every time I hike it, I curse it. Then I come back the next year and hike it again.
