Three-toed slothThree-toed sloth

This is a 3 toed sloth in the rain forest of Costa Rica. These amazing creatures are the slowest mammal in the world, so slow that they host entire ecosystems of algae, arthropods, fungi, and bacteria that are unique to sloths. They live their entire lives in the tropical canopies, coming down to the ground just once a week to poop! This particular sloth is a male, which is evident by the orange fur and strip on his back. He is quite a handsome fellow.
