Zebra-tailed lizard
Look at how beautifully this Zebra-tailed lizard color coordinated with his backdrop! These are quite common in southern Arizona, and they are great models. They get their name from the thick black stripes in their tail. They often curl and wag their tail - as if they are showing it off.
If you notice the white material on his nostrils, it is because many desert lizards have specialized salt glands in their noses. These glands help them manage excess salt from their diet. When the buildup becomes too much, the lizards “sneeze” to expel it. It's pretty amazing how they adapt to their environment.
