"I" is for Island.

This post is simple and easy.

It's a collection of photos I took while visiting a few islands in Hawaii, because sometimes, you just need a vacation. Since Hawaii won't exactly let us in right now, the next best thing is to daydream and these photos should certainly help!

Makewehi Lithified Cliffs, Kauai, HawaiiI was lucky to be staying close to this area so I could hike out here every morning before sunrise. I didn't see coastline like this anywhere else in Hawaii.

Akaka Falls, Kona (Big Island), HawaiiThe 442 foot Akaka Falls can be viewed via a short, easy hike in the Akaka Falls State Park on the Big Island, near Hilo.

Anole, Kona (Big Island), HawaiiThese guys are pretty plentiful in Hawaii and extremely cooperative for portraits.

Orchid, Kona (Big Island) HawaiiThere are so many beautiful plants, including many varieties of orchids in Hawaii.

Hanalei Pier, Kauai, HawaiiI like taking picture of the underside of piers more than the topside. This one was pretty low to the ground so I had to get down on my knees to capture it. Thankfully, the water was not cold.

Na Pali Coast, Kauai, HawaiiAerial view of Na Pali coast. There are only a few ways to see this coastline; by air, boat, or on foot via the strenuous Kalalau Trail, which also requires advance permit to hike. The trail was closed when I was here (not that I would attempt that hike) but I was still able to photograph it by air and boat.

Secret Falls, Kauai, HawaiiThis waterfall can be reached by kayaking up the Wailua River, then hiking a short distance to the falls. The trail can be extremely muddy and slippery during the rainy season.

Na Pali Coast, Kauai, HawaiiDo you hear the soundtrack from Jurassic Park playing in your head? This coastline was used as the backdrop of the island in the first Jurassic Park movie. There are actually several locations throughout the islands where the dinosaur movies were filmed.

Napali Bay, Maui, HawaiiBesides the unbelievably reliable sunsets, Maui also allows you to photograph comfortably in the ocean surf in shorts and a t-shirt - something I have never been able to do in the frigid waters of the Northern California coastline.

Waterfall, Pipiwai Trail, Maui, HawaiiThis is one of several waterfalls you will see hiking along the Pipiwai trail on the road to Hana in Maui.

Pools of Mokolea, Kauai, HawaiiThese pools were pretty magical at sunrise, but the trek to get there required wading through the Kilauea stream which was running quite high and swift when I was there. Hiking it in the dark probably wasn't wise either. Thankfully, me and my camera made it without water damage!

Rainbow Falls, Kona (Big Island), HawaiiThese falls are known for the rainbows that can be seen in them around 10:00 am each morning.

Secret Beach, Maui, HawaiiBe forewarned - the Secret Beach is not so secret! It sure did make a nice foreground for another stunning Hawaiian sunset though.

Maui coastline, aerial view, Maui, HawaiiMaui doesn't have the dramatic coastline that the Na Pali coast offers, but it's still pretty impressive.

Waimea Falls, Maui, HawaiiThis is one of the many roadside waterfalls on the Road to Hana. They are practically around every corner - and there are a lot of corners on the Road to Hana!

Unanmed waterfall, Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside park, Maui, HawaiiYet another waterfall along the road to Hana in Maui. I've heard you can get waterfall fatigue along this road because there are so many waterfalls, but I did not.
