Egret with frog
This is a Great Egret, one of 10 species of egrets found in Northa America. This species is commonly found hunting along the American River. The great egret is considered one of the most elegant birds in Northa America and is the symbol for the Audubon Society. This bird uses a variety of tactics to hunt for food. On this morning, he/she was using a "stand and wait" approach with occasional piercing into the water to catch fish. I was surprised when the bird pulled out a large frog. That must have been the equivalent of breakfast and brunch!
