European Starling feeding nestlings
The European Starling, also referred to as the Common Starling was brought to North America in 1890 by Shakespeare enthusiasts. A highly adaptable species, they currently number in the 200 million range and those birds are descended from just 100 birds. They are excellent mimics and can imitate other species songs, calls and human speech. As they are not native to the United States, they are considered an invasive species. At first glance, they appear black but if you are able to see them in sunlight, they have striking coloration in their plumage. They are very attentive parents. This starling is feeding its nestlings in a tree cavity used as a nest and was quite successful returning to the nest frequently with insects for it's young.
