Black Tail Fawn
There is a season for everything in photography, but summertime can be downright slow for shooting wildlife. The hot temperatures have them hunkering down in the shade waiting for cooler temperatures to arrive, making them difficult to locate - even at dawn and dusk. Black-tailed deer typically breed in November-December and their offspring appear 6 months later, just in time for the Sacramento summer heat. There is something irresistible about fawns with their big ears, white spots, and boundless energy. The fact that they have been rather difficult to spot this year made this capture all the more sweeter. I'm sure this little one was off to find some shade with mom!
