JellyfishJellyfish

This is a Pacific Sea Nettle (photographed in an aquarium). These invertebrates are found in the Pacific ocean's waters ranging from Alaska to Japan. They spend their lives drifting in the currents and are quite successful living what appears to be a pretty chill life. Their tentacles can grow 12-15 feet and deliver a sting that paralyzes prey - but don't worry - their food source is primarily focused on zooplankton and larvae, not people. This species has historically been kept in check by sea turtles, large fish, and marine birds but human activity has impacted their predators, causing the population of these jellies to increase significantly.
